The Ministry of Health and Wellness will, next week, observe National Dentist Day.

The March 6 observance aims to show appreciation for the work that dentists have done, and highlight the services they provide.

Dental Surgeon Dr. Joanna Pamphile, said the focus of National Dentist Day will be on the oral hygiene of expectant mothers.

"The Ministry of Health and Wellness will collaborate with one sector of our populace, expectant mothers, because we have recognized the need for treating dental diseases among that group," she said. "Recent studies have linked dental problems such as periodontal disease to low birth weight and premature births; and as one of our higher risk groups, expectant mothers should be treated, so we are offering free dental care for these persons during this period."

Dr. Pamphile encouraged pregnant mothers to take advantage of the services.

Also on National Dentist Day, the Ministry of Health will host a thanksgiving service at the Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist church, followed by a celebratory luncheon at Auberge Seraphine. The church service will begin at 10 a.m., on March 6. All are invited.
