As Saint Lucia prepares to celebrate Lucian Carnival 2026, including the Parade of the Bands on Monday and Tuesday, July 20 and 21, the Ministry responsible for Civil Aviation, in collaboration with the Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC), is appealing to the public to observe drone safety regulations, particularly near the George F. L. Charles Airport (GFLCA) in Castries.

To help prevent aircraft incidents or accidents and avoid disruptions to airport operations—particularly at GFLCA, which lies adjacent to the John Compton Highway, the route used for the Parade of the Bands—the Ministry reminds all drone users of the following:

1. Recreational Drone Use: Recreational drone use is prohibited near airports or within the designated No-Drone Zones surrounding Hewanorra International Airport and George F. L. Charles Airport. These zones extend 2.5 nautical miles (NM) from each airport and must be respected at all times.
2. Commercial Drone Operations: Applications for commercial drone operations within these No-Drone Zones are considered on a case-by-case basis. For Lucian Carnival 2026, including the Parade of the Bands, only the drone operator endorsed by the CPMC and authorised by the Ministry has been approved to capture aerial footage of Carnival events in Castries.
3. Event Safety: Revelers, vendors and spectators are encouraged to enjoy the festivities responsibly. Unauthorized drone activity poses serious risks to aviation safety and public safety and may adversely affect airport operations.

The Ministry emphasizes that unauthorised drone use is a serious threat to aviation safety and may result in enforcement action. Your cooperation is essential in helping to keep our skies safe and ensure a safe and enjoyable Lucian Carnival 2026 for all.
