The Beckwith International Leadership Development program is designed to instill leadership through sports.
The Beckwith International Leadership Development (BILD) program was officially launched on Nov. 11, at the National Cultural Centre. The BILD is an international program of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, and is designed to instill leadership qualities to strengthen the skills of young men and women. The program utilizes sports-based training integrated into schools, sports clubs and local community groups as explained by the Hon. Shawn Edward, minister with responsibility for Youth Development and Sports.
A total of 206 young sports leaders have undergone the BILD training and received certification which has been accredited by the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College through a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry. Seven other individuals are now certified national trainers and have the expertise to train other local trainers.
The Youth Sport Trust and International Inspiration both of the United Kingdom are key partners in the BILD Program. These two institutions deliver high quality training and materials for youth leadership and have collaborated with the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports to train young sport leaders for the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2017.
The grant funding for BILD is EC$ three hundred thousand ($300, 000) for this budget year (2014-2015) and is a capital project of the ministry. By the year 2017, the ministry would have invested EC$ seven hundred thousand ($700,000) in youth leadership development through the BILD program.
